Theophilus is an ex gang-member who is a year into recovery, having survived 11 gunshot wounds. He is currently becoming certified in community engagement and leadership through the organization Growth and Development.
We've done extensive work filming Burk in his personal archive. It is a vast library of important events and people of the last 60+ years. Burk has spent his life traveling the globe, forever composing extraordinary beautiful photographs. A majority of his work was purely personal, with only a small fraction actually dedicated to assignments. In this archive we've stumbled upon Robert Kennedy, Jackie Kennedy, Hunter S. Thompson, Martin Luther King Jr., Bill Gates, Robin Williams, Joan Baez, Civil Rights Protests in the 1960s, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, and the list goes on.
Alicia is a student at East Carolina University studying Political Science. She intends to run for President of the United States when she is of age. To hear her speak, there is no question she will fulfill that goal.
Also a member of Growth and Development, ex gang-member, and lifelong friend of Theophilus, Jerome is determinedly cleaning up his neighborhood in Wilson, North Carolina while at the same time getting certified in community engagement and leadership.
Alma is from Farmville, NC. She received her Doctorate and Master's degrees from North Carolina State University, and a Bachelor's degree from North Carolina Central University in 1970. Alma is leading efforts to transform the culture of USDA and to transform the USDA into a model organization, positioned to meet the present and future needs of its employees and customers. On this particular day, Burk took a portrait of her standing with the gravestones of her relatives - freed slaves. She was wearing the dress she wore to President Obama's inauguration in 2013.
